Can we predict low back pain?

Written by | 11th, October, 2023

Low back pain is more common than you would think. I’ll let the facts do the talking…

In a 6 month period, 5 in every 10 Canadians suffered low back pain. Up to 85% of working people can expect to experience low back pain in their lifetime. In Canada alone, the low back pain-related estimate of the medical costs ranges between 6 and 12 billion dollars annually. Wow.

Back pain is a debilitating condition that affects thousands. It can start from a low intensity and work its way up to a higher one in no time.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could predict low back pain before it even develops?

A recent research has suggested that there are certain risk factors that can be identified before the development of low back pain that can drastically improve the quality of life of everyone. These risk factors include:

  • Decreased Lateral (side to side) flexion range of motion
  • Decreased hamstring range of motion
  • Decreased lumbar lordosis

Sorry, had to throw in some medical jargon there. What I am trying to say is that the good news is: these issues can be checked by a qualified professional such as a chiropractic physician. So technically, we CAN predict low back pain.

Remember, I am a true believer of the phrase “prevention is the best cure”. If you can follow the correct recommendations and take preventative measures, you can achieve your optimal potential.
